WELCOME

Welcome to our Gardening Club Rhydlewis and District Gardening Club has been around since the time of Adam and Eve. In fact, it is believed that one of our members planted and tended the very apple tree that gave rise to the pair being expelled from the garden!!

Whether this urban myth is true or not, the club is here to encourage, improve and extend the members' knowledge of all branches of horticulture. It is open to everyone and new members are all always welcome to come along.

Our activities during the year include a varied programme of talks and social events, summer garden visits, a plant sale, social gatherings/bbq and an annual open show in August.

The Summer Party

A huge thank you to Sara Redman who put on such a wonderful summer party at Llan Manal in Penrhiwpal.

Despite the weather being overcast and not very 'summer-like' we gathered in her new barn.

As you can see from the photos, everyone was soon nattering away before we tucked in the fab food;
members had brought everything frocolourful flower salads to scrumptious raspberry pavlovas.

The winner of the garden fork and spade was also announced; Lucky number winner was Helen McDonnald.

We all made friends with the geese and the new puppy, Sky.

We also had the chance to look at Pat O'Conner's collection of Bonsai trees,

before wandering round Sara's flower growing business, The Flower Meadow.

Once again, thanks so much, Sara!

Don't forget the date of the Garden Visit, TUESDAY JULY 30th, which is our next meeting. This year, our garden visit will be to Llanllyr in Talsarn, near Lampeter (SA48 8QB). Open by Mr & Mrs Robert Gee, this early 19 century garden is on the site of medieval nunnery, renovated and replanted since 1989. It has a large pool, bog garden, formal water garden, rose and shrub borders, gravel gardens, laburnum arbour, allegorical labyrinth, and boasts some interesting and unusual plants
Admission: Adult: £4.50.  We will meet at the gardens at 5pm, and after looking round, we will eat  at the Vale Of Aeron Inn just outside Felinfach on the A482 (SA48 8AE)
