WELCOME

Welcome to our Gardening Club Rhydlewis and District Gardening Club has been around since the time of Adam and Eve. In fact, it is believed that one of our members planted and tended the very apple tree that gave rise to the pair being expelled from the garden!!

Whether this urban myth is true or not, the club is here to encourage, improve and extend the members' knowledge of all branches of horticulture. It is open to everyone and new members are all always welcome to come along.

Our activities during the year include a varied programme of talks and social events, summer garden visits, a plant sale, social gatherings/bbq and an annual open show in August.

Return to Ty'r Maes

 Last year, the gardening club met at Ty'r Maes Gardens in Ffarmers in late summer, and we loved the gardens so much  that we came back this May when the gloriously colourful rhododendrons, azaleas and primulas are in bloom.

It's a 4 acre garden with splendid views, two delightful lily  ponds, some new planting in an open meadow and many herbaceous and shrub beds exuberantly informal planting, full of cottage garden favourites and many unusual plants. John loves his trees – he has 200+ and has a growing area of arboretum, pergola, gazebos, and a post and rope arcade covered in climbers. As always Helen made us a yummy tea which we ate in full sun. Everything is for charity, through the National Garden Scheme.

There's always a table of plants to buy, which we took huge advantage off.

Janette took these stunning photos which give a visceral sense of the experience.

It was a stunning return, and if you missed it, John and Helen Brooks have their garden opening for the NGS – check your Yellow Book. Opening information:
Sunday 6 August (1 – 6pm). Admission £3.50, children free. Home-made teas.
Visitors also welcome by arrangement April to September please request teas when booking;
